Hopmac Fruit Tree Nurseries was founded in 2019 at Mitundu, Lilongwe and it focuses on the production of fruit tree seedlings and offers advisory services.
The company recognised a significant gap in the availability of quality planting materials that are both climate-adapted and high-yielding, which led to its venture into fruit production.
Hopmac has firmly established itself as a key player in Malawi’s horticulture sector by providing high-quality fruit seedlings that are specifically adapted to the local climate.
The strength of Hopmac lies in its comprehensive approach to horticulture. This includes seed sourcing, nursery establishment, nursery management, and the propagation of a wide variety of fruit seedlings, including mangoes, peaches, papayas, Hass avocados, mulberries, and guavas.
With the Growth Accelerator (GA) grant, Hopmac aims to significantly expand its operations and deepen its impact. The primary goal is to increase the production capacity of the nursery to meet the growing demand for high-quality fruit tree seedlings.
This expansion will involve constructing additional infrastructure, such as protected cultivation structures, and acquiring advanced equipment, including irrigation systems and transportation vehicles.
The grant will also support capacity-building initiatives aimed at empowering local farmers and communities.
Hopmac intends to implement training programs focused on sustainable farming practices, climate adaptation, and resource management.
These programmes are crucial in ensuring that the company’s innovations reach a broader audience, amplifying its social and environmental impact.
Hopmac envisions a future where smallholder farmers across Malawi and Southern Africa are equipped with the tools, knowledge and resources they need to thrive in a changing agricultural landscape. The GA Grant will be a critical catalyst in achieving this vision.
