Stuart M. Grant Limited is a Salima-based company that exports live ornamental fish to Europe, the USA, the Far East, and South Africa for recreational use alone.
These fish, also known as cichlids, are endemic to Lake Malawi and it is estimated that there are about 1,000 different species found in the lake, with many more yet to be discovered. No other lake or freshwater body in the world houses as many fish species as Lake Malawi.
These fish exhibit bright colours and interesting social behaviours. These characteristics, among many others, make them highly desirable to fish hobbyists around the world.
With support from the Growth Accelerator, the venture intends to improve the quality of its fish exports by upgrading the water pumping system and refurbishing two fish houses.
